Rose Tyler Wig Fully Curled by EssieofWho Rose Tyler Wig Fully Curled by EssieofWho
Excuse the long description. I added an explanation about how I made the wig curl because I'm too busy to create a formal tutorial. :)

I’m planning on cosplaying as Rose Tyler from Doctor Who for the Phoenix Comicon 2013. I’m focusing on the clothes she wears the episodes The Empty Child and The Doctor Dances because I already have the clothes that look similar to the ones she wears in the episode. I have everything I need but the only thing missing was the hair.

I’ve never worn a wig before but I decided to for this cosplay because my hair is brown/dark brown and I refuse to dye it for just a costume. :D I bought this wig on a few years ago in preparation for another Rose Tyler cosplay. It didn’t have any roots on it so I added them by using sharpie markers. I used black, dark brown, and light brown markers. I also blended them together with rubbing alcohol and removed any excess ink by washing the roots under cold water without any soap or shampoo. The wig is a heat resistant wig so I decided to use it for this Rose cosplay along with the cosplay I intended it for.

I curled the wig using a curling iron, moose, hair spray (Top of the wig), water in a spray bottle, and a lot of time. I’m not kidding when I say it took a lot of time to finish this wig. I didn’t keep track, but I estimate it took 3 hours to curl the whole entire wig. I blame it on the curling iron I used. I used it because it has the right size barrel, but no matter if you use the iron on synthetic hair or natural human hair, the curls never stay. I really don’t know why this is, but since I didn’t want to run to the store to buy a new curling iron I just used what I had. I applied the moose to small sections of the wig before I curled it. I had to do at least two curls with the iron per section before the curls stayed. The moose REALLY helped make the curls stay and I don’t think I could have made them stay at all. I think hair spray could have worked as well, but I worked with the moose first and since it worked great I didn’t want to experiment beyond that.
So far the curls aren’t coming out but if they do I plan on re-curling those sections and then hair spraying them in place.

So there you have it! How I made my heat resistant wig curl for my Rose Tyler cosplay! Hope you liked my explanation and how the wig looks. I hope I become brave enough to wear it to the PCC! I put too much time and effort into making the wig curl to make it sit at home!!! :D

ROTFLOL!!! I should hand my camera to my mom and say "Please take my picture Mommie!!!" I've been trying to get her to take photos of me, but she doesn't know how to use my cameras. (She's used to film cameras but mine are digital. ^_^) Maybe it's time for her to take my photo of me dressed in my costume...? :D
